Our community is built on respect, inclusivity, and authentic connections. These Community Guidelines help ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe, welcoming experience while connecting with fellow cruise passengers.

By using CruiseMates, you agree to follow these guidelines. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban.

1. Be Respectful and Kind

✅ Do:

  • Treat everyone with respect and courtesy
  • Use inclusive language
  • Accept "no" gracefully if someone isn't interested
  • Respect people's boundaries and preferences
  • Be patient and understanding with others
  • Celebrate diversity in gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, ability, and background

❌ Don't:

  • Harass, bully, or intimidate anyone
  • Send unwanted sexual messages or content
  • Use slurs, hate speech, or discriminatory language
  • Make assumptions about someone's identity
  • Pressure anyone for personal information or meetings
  • Continue messaging someone who asked you to stop

Remember: Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected. If someone isn't interested, move on gracefully.


2. Keep It Real

✅ Do:

  • Use recent, accurate photos of yourself
  • Be honest about who you are
  • Represent yourself authentically
  • Use your real first name or genuine nickname

❌ Don't:

  • Use photos of someone else or fake photos
  • Lie about your age, identity, or relationship status
  • Impersonate another person or create fake accounts
  • Use heavily filtered or misleading photos
  • Create multiple accounts
  • Misrepresent your intentions

Remember: Authentic connections start with honesty. Be yourself!


3. Appropriate Content

Profile Photos

✅ Acceptable:

  • Clear photos of your face
  • Full-body photos
  • Photos of you doing activities you enjoy
  • Group photos (make it clear which person is you)

❌ Not Acceptable:

  • Nudity or sexually explicit content
  • Photos in underwear or overly sexual swimwear
  • Photos of children
  • Photos with weapons or promoting violence
  • Photos of illegal activities
  • Blurry or unidentifiable photos

Profile Bio

✅ Acceptable:

  • Information about your interests and hobbies
  • What you're looking for on CruiseMates
  • Fun facts about yourself
  • Travel experiences and cruise stories

❌ Not Acceptable:

  • Sexual or explicit content
  • Hate speech or discriminatory language
  • Contact information (phone, email, social media)
  • Commercial advertising or spam
  • Illegal activity or drug references

Messages

✅ Acceptable:

  • Friendly, respectful conversation
  • Asking about shared interests
  • Making plans to meet in public places on the ship
  • Respectful and appropriate compliments

❌ Not Acceptable:

  • Sexual or explicit messages (especially as opening messages)
  • Unsolicited intimate photos
  • Aggressive or demanding language
  • Spam or copy-paste messages
  • Asking for money or financial information

Remember: Start conversations respectfully!


4. Safety First

Protecting Yourself

  • Meet in public: Choose public areas on the ship (restaurants, bars, pool deck)
  • Tell someone: Let a friend or family member know your plans
  • Trust your instincts: If something feels off, it probably is
  • Take your time: Don't feel pressured to meet or share personal information
  • Stay on the app: Keep conversations on CruiseMates until you're comfortable

Red Flags to Watch For

🚩 Someone asks for money or financial help
🚩 They pressure you to move off the app immediately
🚩 Their story doesn't add up or keeps changing
🚩 They become aggressive when you set boundaries
🚩 They send unsolicited sexual content
🚩 They claim to be on your cruise but can't meet

If you see these red flags, stop communicating and report immediately.


5. Prohibited Activities

The following are strictly forbidden and will result in immediate account termination:

Illegal Activity

  • Any illegal activity or promotion of illegal activity
  • Drug dealing or solicitation
  • Prostitution or sex trafficking
  • Fraud, scams, or financial crimes

Harassment and Abuse

  • Sexual harassment or assault
  • Stalking or threatening behavior
  • Doxxing (sharing someone's private information)
  • Revenge porn or non-consensual intimate images
  • Blackmail or extortion

Hate and Discrimination

  • Hate speech targeting protected characteristics
  • Promoting violence or terrorism
  • Racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic content

Spam and Scams

  • Commercial solicitation or advertising
  • Pyramid schemes
  • Phishing or account theft
  • Bot accounts or automated messaging

6. LGBTQ+ Inclusivity

CruiseMates is proudly LGBTQ+ inclusive. We welcome people of all:

  • Gender identities (transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, cisgender, and more)
  • Sexual orientations (lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and more)
  • Relationship styles (monogamous, polyamorous, open, and more)

✅ Do:

  • Respect people's pronouns and identities
  • Use inclusive language
  • Celebrate diversity
  • Support LGBTQ+ community members

❌ Don't:

  • Misgender people or refuse correct pronouns
  • Make assumptions based on appearance
  • Ask invasive questions about bodies or medical history
  • Use slurs or derogatory language
  • Fetishize or exoticize LGBTQ+ people

Remember: Everyone's identity is valid. Respect is non-negotiable.


7. Consent and Boundaries

Consent is essential in all interactions.

What Consent Looks Like:

  • Enthusiastic: A clear, excited "yes"
  • Informed: Understanding what you're agreeing to
  • Freely given: No pressure or coercion
  • Reversible: You can change your mind anytime
  • Specific: Consent to one thing ≠ consent to everything

Respecting Boundaries:

  • Accept "no" without argument
  • Don't guilt-trip or manipulate
  • Respect someone's pace and comfort level
  • Ask before sending intimate photos
  • Stop immediately if asked

Remember: "Maybe" means no. Silence means no. Only "yes" means yes.


8. Reporting and Enforcement

How to Report

If you see violations:

  1. Use the Report Button on profiles and messages
  2. Block the User to stop all contact
  3. Provide Details to help us investigate

What to Report:

  • Harassment or threatening behavior
  • Inappropriate photos or messages
  • Fake profiles or scams
  • Hate speech or discrimination
  • Illegal activity
  • Any guideline violations

What Happens Next:

We Review: Our team investigates all reports promptly
We Take Action: Violations result in warnings, removals, or bans
We Protect Privacy: Your report is confidential
We May Contact Authorities: For illegal activity

Remember: Reporting helps keep everyone safe.


9. Consequences for Violations

First Offense (Minor):

  • Warning message
  • Content removal
  • Temporary feature restriction

Serious or Repeated:

  • Account suspension (temporary ban)
  • Permanent account termination
  • No refund of paid features

Severe Violations:

  • Immediate permanent ban
  • Report to law enforcement
  • Legal action

10. Tips for Positive Interactions

Starting Conversations:

  • Read their profile and reference something specific
  • Ask open-ended questions
  • Be genuine and friendly
  • Don't take non-responses personally

Meeting in Person:

  • Suggest public places on the ship
  • Be punctual and be yourself
  • Have an exit plan if needed

If You're Not Interested:

  • It's okay to unmatch
  • A polite "not a match" is fine
  • Block if they persist
